direct, compassionate, skills-based Therapy that honors the mind-body connection.
— I’m Em Scott (they/she), a Los Angeles-based Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified DBT therapist, and Gottman-Certified therapist. I support teens, adults, families, and couples in finding tools for emotional distress, healing from trauma and/or betrayal, balancing acceptance with change, and creating a life worth living.

My services
Individual Therapy
I offer one-on-one therapy for teens and adults seeking clarity, resilience, and a deeper connection to themselves. Rooted in Family Systems Therapy, DBT, and somatic techniques, my work integrates evidence-based practices with the mind-body connection. We will work together to find skills that work for you, help improve your interpersonal relationships, and change cycles that you feel stuck in. At the core of this work is emotional differentiation: the ability to hold onto your sense of self, even amid relationship dynamics, grief, or growth.

Relationship Therapy
In relationship therapy, I help couples and partnerships rediscover the friendship that brought them together in the first place. Using the Gottman Method, we work through conflict, reignite intimacy, and heal old wounds, guiding you to turn back toward one another. I embrace all relationship dynamics, offering a safe, affirming space where your connection (whether monogamous, open, or poly) can evolve and flourish. My specialty with couples therapy is in helping partners navigate and heal from affairs and betrayal trauma.

My Therapeutic Approach
Therapeutic Approach with Individuals
Grounded in Family Systems Theory, I help adolescents and adults explore how their family dynamics, inherited patterns, and emotional responses shape their current relationships and sense of self. I blend Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) with holistic modalities, including somatic techniques, art interventions, Polyvagal Theory, and sound healing. This integrative approach allows us to use research-based tools to build practical skills, while also honoring the mind-body connection and addressing emotions that may have been stored or suppressed over time. The goal of DBT is to improve distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and learn mindfulness skills that work for you. Each session is tailored to you in the here-and-now.
Therapeutic Approach with Couples
Using The Gottman Method with a systemic lens, I help couples learn how to manage conflict, create shared meaning, deepen intimacy, and foster a sense of trust. My approach is rooted in the belief that healing occurs through strengthening the friendship and trust that form the foundation of lasting connection. I support couples in learning practical tools grounded in decades of research, such as how to engage in constructive conflict, express needs effectively, and attune to one another’s emotional worlds. Whether you’re navigating a major transition, rebuilding after betrayal, or simply seeking more closeness, my work is focused on helping you reconnect with intention and care.

About Em
What is your professional background?
I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #151251) registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, supervised by Dr. Liz Mohun, PsyD., LMFT #93670.
I received my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Downtown Los Angeles. I also hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Integrated Arts from the University of Baltimore and an Associate’s Degree in Humanities from the Community College of Baltimore County.
In 2022, I deepened my clinical perspective through a study abroad program in Zürich, Switzerland, focused on multicultural approaches to spirituality and addiction. I studied how both 12-step and harm-reduction models are implemented in Swiss clinical settings, with attention to Jung’s influence on modern treatment. I attended lectures at the C.G. Jung Institute, the International School of Analytical Psychology, and the University of Zürich Psychiatric Hospital.
During my practicum year, I gained experience as a school-based therapist at Alliance Tennenbaum Family Technology High School and PUC eCALS High School. I provided pro-bono individual and family therapy for teenage students, working directly on-site.
I currently work at the group private-practice Los Angeles Emotional Wellness Group in Los Feliz, offering individual therapy, couples counseling, and family therapy in-person for clients in the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. I also provide telehealth counseling and remote therapy for clients throughout California. Additionally, I am a certified trauma professional and certified sound-healing practitioner, integrating holistic and mind-body practices into my approach. Whether you’re seeking therapy online, or in person mental health therapy in Los Angeles, I am here to help you on your journey to healing and personal growth.
What presentations/workshops have you attended for continuing education?
I am committed to staying up-to-date with the latest practices in mental health therapy. I regularly attend presentations, workshops, and continuing education trainings to deepen my knowledge, learn new practical tools, and enhance my understanding of the diverse needs of my clients. This ongoing professional development allows me to offer the best therapy counseling services that I can to individuals, couples counseling, and family therapy clients in the Greater Los Angeles area.
Whether you’re seeking therapy online or in-person support, I continue to seek out opportunities for growth to ensure I provide the most effective care. My participation in these educational experiences also allows me to remain better serve my clients, especially those in need of specialized care such as LGBTQ+ therapy or polyamory-affirmative therapy, or are looking for integrating somatic therapy, polyvagal theory, attachment theory and more.
