About

I’m Em Scott (they/she), an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #151251) registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, under the supervision of Dr. Liz Mohun, PsyD., LMFT #93670.

I earned my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Downtown Los Angeles, after earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Integrated Arts from the University of Baltimore and an Associate’s Degree in Humanities from the Community College of Baltimore County.

In 2022, I deepened my clinical lens through a study abroad program in Zürich, Switzerland, where I learned about the intersectional frameworks of spirituality and addiction. The program focused on how both 12-step models and harm-reduction approaches are applied in Swiss clinical settings, examining Jung’s influence on modern addiction treatment. I attended lectures at the C.G. Jung Institute, the International School of Analytical Psychology, and the University of Zürich Psychiatric Hospital, where I gained insight into how psychotherapy is practiced within a humanistic, socially supported, and culturally attuned system that integrates clinical care with comprehensive public programs designed to promote well-being at every level. This immersion expanded my understanding of how depth psychology, cultural context, and integrative treatment can work together to support healing in more compassionate and nuanced ways.

During my practicum year, I had the privilege of working as a school-based therapist at Alliance Tennenbaum Family Technology High School and PUC eCALS High School through Partnerships to Uplift Communities‘ Mental Health Counseling Program. There, I provided pro-bono therapy to students and families, helping teenagers find their footing in a world that often felt too heavy. It was during my work with teens that I gained a broader perspective on the struggles they face, but my own teenage years were marked by trauma that still shapes how I approach this work. I know firsthand that many teens are navigating trauma, pain, and loss that often go unseen. I bring this lived understanding to my work, helping teens feel truly seen in the depth of their experience.

In my current group private practice at Los Angeles Emotional Wellness Group in Los Feliz, I work with adults, couples, and families who are carrying the unseen burdens of historical trauma, grief, and anxiety, with a special niche in navigating the challenges of navigating life today as a queer or gender-diverse person. I offer a collaborative therapeutic environment that fosters healing and allows you to reclaim your sense of self in a way that feels authentic and attuned to your unique personhood. My approach is grounded in clinical training and a deep curiosity and empathy for others.

When I’m not in session, you’ll usually find me surfing, swimming, or hanging out at the beach. I love reading fiction, cooking for friends, playing video games, learning Spanish and Greek, and spending time in nature. I also dedicate a significant amount of my “off-time” to deepening my clinical work through courses, seminars, consultation, and research to better understand what my clients are navigating and how I can support them. Overall, being a therapist is the most fulfilling path I could have chosen. It allows me to serve a community I care deeply about while continually feeding my curiosity about people, healing, and life itself.
