Infidelity is one of the most painful things a relationship can experience. It leaves a deep emotional wound, often in both partners. If you’ve recently discovered or disclosed an affair in your relationship, please know you’re not alone. While affairs can be devastating, they are also extremely common. Whether you want to repair the relationship, want to discuss the impact together in a mediated space, or are unsure of what you want moving forward, therapy can provide a place for you and your partner to process what happened and what comes next.

I have significant experience working with affair recovery and betrayal trauma, and approach this work from a place of curiosity rather than blame or shame. Affairs, while deeply painful, are also extremely common. In the aftermath of an affair or betrayal, I acknowledge the pain, anger, and devastation that can come with broken trust, while also approaching the partner who had the the affair with curiosity rather than judgment.
I have seen many couples emerge from deep ruptures in trust with relationships that feel more honest, connected, and intimate than they did before the affair. That process is rarely easy, but is possible if both partners are willing to engage in accountability, openness, and patience. I sometimes refer to the rebuilt version of a couple’s post-infidelity relationship as “relationship/marriage 2.0.”
Is Affair Recovery Therapy Right for You?
You may benefit from infidelity counseling if you are experiencing:
- An emotional or physical affair, or “micro-cheating”
- Betrayal trauma
- Loss of trust after infidelity
- Repeated affairs or ongoing dishonesty
- Difficulty deciding whether to stay together
- Constant arguments about the affair
- Intrusive thoughts, anxiety, or hypervigilance after betrayal
- Emotional disconnection following an affair
Whether you’re hoping to rebuild your relationship, understand what happened and/or why, or provide structure and mediation for a conscious separation, therapy can provide a structured space to process one of the most difficult experiences a couple can face.
